Palm oil plantation proposed for Liberia

In Liberia, Golden VerOleum and Golden Agri-Resources, the world’s second largest palm oil plantation located in Indonesia, has proposed to invest $1.6 billion (€1.2 billion) that will see the development of a palm oil plantation in the nation.

The investment, which has been accepted by the national parliament, could create up to 35,000 jobs.

According to the director of Nigeria’s Initiative for Public Policy Analysis Thompson Ayodele: ‘This new investment takes place as the World Bank has frozen support for palm oil. The World Bank should take notice of what Africa already understands – palm oil is an important crop that alleviates poverty, reduces food insecurity, provides an important source of vitamins and dietary needs for Africans and creates jobs.’
