Optimus Technologies obtains EPA Approval
Optimus Technologies, a bi-fuel conversion system specialist, is the first to receive US EPA approval for an advanced biofuel conversion solution for existing medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
It is also the first to achieve compliance for use with pure biofuel derived from recycled cooking oil.
The solution reduces fleet fuel costs by up to 25% and reduces lifecycle emissions up to 80% without creating the expensive start-up costs that compressed natural gas (CNG) does.
The solution is based on a combination of Optimus’ Vector bi-fuel (diesel or biofuel) conversion system and certified, pure biofuel.
Only minor modifications are needed to incorporate the technology, and paybacks can be achieved in a year.
Emissions test results showed a considerable overall reduction in tailpipe emissions in comparison to diesel. Particulate matter was significantly reduced by about 40%. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions were reduced with all fuels tested.
Field trials and certification tests are currently being tested on other engines.
