Nordic aviation sector joining forces for sustainable fuel

An initiative for the development of sustainable jet fuels has been announced, bringing together key players in the Nordic aviation sector.

The Nordic Initiative for Sustainable Aviation (NISA) is made up of airports, airlines and their industry federations, and aviation authorities. Airbus and Boeing have been named as supporters of the initiative, as well as the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The NISA says it is concerned other industries are being prioritised for future sustainable fuels over aviation, and have come together ‘to form an association to facilitate that the aviation industry gets its share of the limited biofuel resources for use by the aviation sector’.

The Nordic initiators will focus on bringing together stakeholders throughout the supply chain to find the best and most energy efficient solutions as well as put pressure on policy makers to ensure that aviation secures its share of sustainable fuels. The extensive task involves stakeholders from agriculture, technology suppliers, investors, regulators, producers and oil suppliers.
