New sorghum hybrids to aid biofuels and biopower sectors
Second generation feedstock business NexSteppe has launched its new sorghum hybrid products in the US and Brazil.
The company hopes its sweet sorghum and high biomass hybrids will offer alternative solutions to advanced and cellulosic biofuels, biopower and biobased product producers.
‘Through a combination of directed conventional breeding, marker-assisted breeding and analytical techniques, we have developed an elite germplasm collection,’ says NexSteppe VP of breeding and agronomy Jerry O’Rear. ‘Our breeding efforts in Texas, Puerto Rico and Brazil, diverse field screening locations and advanced compositional analysis capabilities enable us to develop hybrids specifically optimized for particular end-uses and key geographic regions.’
