New project set to provide renewable fuel for US defence facilities

Biorefineries operator Biodico has agreed to develop renewable fuel and technologies with the US Navy on behalf of the US Department of Defence (DoD).

Both US Naval and DoD facilities across the globe will benefit from the partnership as it seeks to optimise the operation of sustainable biorefineries that would produce biofuels, energy using renewable resources and other bio-based products.

‘As part of this agreement we are building a sustainable biorefinery at Naval Base Ventura County that will produce biofuel and bioenergy at prices competitive with unsubsidised conventional fuel and power,’ Biodico president Russell Teall was quoted as saying.

The project will receive part of its funding from the California Energy Commission, with state senator Fran Pavley stating that ‘the integration of sustainable agriculture with renewable combined heat and power produced on-site will produce inexpensive advanced biofuels.’
