New biojet fuel test on course in October

Carinata seeds form the basis of a new research project into biojet fuel according to Albuquerque, US-based Applied Research Associates (ARA).

ARA and Chevron Lummus are working with Agrisoma Biosciences, the National Research Council of Canada (NRCC) and the US Air force Research Laboratory to evaluate and ultimately produce a 100% drop-in ReadiJet fuel.

‘It is easy to make biodiesel that you can run in your tractor but to put the fuel in an airplane, that meets military specs, is what we have been working on,’ senior ARA engineer Steve Baxley was quoted as saying. ‘Biodiesel has trouble in the cold so what we are making here could meet the density specifications for future military-type vehicles.’

A NRC Falcon-20 twin engine jet will be used for a test of the renewable jet fuel at the end of October in Ottawa, Canada.
