Multi-million acquisition for rendering operation

Renewable energy company Darling International has completed the purchase of the rendering and biodiesel division of Maple Leaf Foods.

In a statement, Darling says it acquired Rothsay for approximately $645 million (€467.7 million) in cash.

Darling CEO Randall Stuewe believes the addition ‘will bring new solutions and opportunities to our many customers across North America’.

Rothsay claims to be Canada’s largest rendering company and has been operational for over 50 years, currently boasting six processing facilities across the country. It handles over 700 million kilograms of waste material every year to make biodiesel and animal feed among other things.
