Moeve and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) have officially joined forces to create the first-ever Green Molecules Innovation Chair, a pioneering collaboration designed to fast-track breakthrough solutions for the energy transition.
The agreement was signed today at Moeve’s headquarters and marks a major milestone in Spain’s push towards cleaner fuels, advanced research and next-generation technical talent.
The new Chair will focus on developing cutting-edge projects in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) through two key pathways: second-generation biofuels produced from organic waste and used cooking oils, and synthetic e-fuels generated using green hydrogen.
Work will also advance in areas championed by Moeve, including CO₂ capture and conversion, green hydrogen production, and innovative technologies linked to chemicals, mobility and industrial decarbonisation.
Beyond research, the initiative will establish joint training programmes, specialist courses and knowledge-sharing forums aimed at equipping students and professionals with the skills needed for a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
The Chair represents the first business–university partnership in Spain centred on green molecules, reinforcing the essential role of public–private collaboration.
José Manuel Martínez, executive vice-president of technology, projects and services at Moeve, said the alliance “creates a synergy we are extremely proud of” and will help accelerate the decarbonisation of heavy industry and transport.
Bettina Karsch, executive vice-president of people, organisation and culture, added that the Chair “demonstrates our unwavering commitment to talent, innovation and specialised training.”
UPM Rector Óscar García highlighted the initiative as “an excellent opportunity to contribute to the challenge of the sustainable energy transition,” while Chair Director Juan Manuel Muñoz Guijosa described it as a model public-private partnership with strong benefits for both parties.
The initiative will also drive the adoption of AI, digital twins and advanced robotics, supported by strategic collaborations with startups and emerging technology companies. The partnership forms part of Moeve’s Positive Motion strategy to advance transformative technologies and accelerate progress towards a sustainable energy future.
