LDC boosts biofuel feedstock supply with major canola crushing expansion in Saskatchewan

Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has brought online a significantly expanded canola crushing complex in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, more than doubling its annual processing capacity

The upgraded facility now crushes over 2 million tonnes of canola per year, supported by two fully independent crushing and refining lines designed to ensure operational continuity and reliable output for customers in the rapidly growing biofuel sector.

The expansion positions Yorkton as one of North America’s largest integrated oilseed processing hubs, supplying feedstocks essential to renewable diesel and other low‑carbon fuels.

Alongside the canola upgrade, LDC has commissioned a new pea protein production plant at the same site. With capacity to process 75,000 tonnes of yellow peas annually, the facility produces pea protein, fibre and proprietary starch for global food and beverage applications. Its addition broadens Yorkton’s product portfolio and reinforces LDC’s strategy to scale value‑added, plant‑based ingredients.

Situated in one of the world’s most productive canola and pea‑growing regions, the Yorkton complex benefits from strong origination networks and established rail and road links. By the end of 2026, the site will employ 260 people, including 140 new roles created through the expansion. More than 5,500 farmers across Saskatchewan and Manitoba will supply the enlarged operation.

LDC said the investment strengthens its core origination and processing activities while supporting customers’ energy transition needs through dependable biofuel feedstock supply. The combined developments further anchor the company’s presence in Canada and North America, enhancing its ability to serve diverse markets spanning food, animal nutrition and renewable energy
