KLM pushes use of biofuels in long-haul flights
Dutch airline KLM is set to offer weekly transatlantic flights powered by biofuels in the near future.
The fuel, based on used cooking oil, will be provided by biofuels supplier SkyNRG and has the full support of KLM’s various partners. It is claimed the fuel will be used on flights between Amsterdam and New York.
‘This is the result of a joint effort and expanded cooperation between us, Schiphol Group, Delta Air Lines, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and by contributions from our partners in the corporate biofuel programme,’ KLM said in a statement.
The news follows an announcement that KLM is offering corporate clients a chance to choose the percentage of biofuels used in their flights to help cut carbon emissions.
