KLM embarks on transatlantic biofuel trial

KLM has launched a six month biofuel trial using an A330-200 on flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to Aruba and Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles.

The Initiative Towards Sustainable Kerosene for Aviation (ITAKA) sourced the biofuel for the flight, which was supplied by SkyNRG.

KLM says: 'This marks another step forward on the journey to more sustainable aviation, by reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption through enhanced engine performance and utilising lighter, more efficient aircraft.'

The airline and the Dutch governments chose Aruba and Bonaire as both intend to be carbon-neutral by 2020.
