Kinder Morgan, TPA and CSX partner

In Florida, US, Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, the Tampa Port Authority (TPA) and CSX Corporation have partnered to build an ethanol transportation system in the Port of Tampa.

TPA will be responsible for the construction of a new railroad, on which trains of up to 100 cars will be able to deliver product.

This new rail track will enable CSX to move ethanol from manufacturers based in the Midwest to Kinder Morgan's terminal in Tampa. From here a new pipeline will be used to transport the ethanol to various blending facilities.

Distribution via pipeline is a much safer method for delivering ethanol to local markets than trucks.

'This first-of-its-kind intermodal project represents an all around win-win for the Port of Tampa, terminal operators, the consuming public and the environment,' says Richard Wainio, port director and chief executive.
