KAAPA for $10.3m ethanol expansion

Grain merchandiser KAAPA Grains plans to develop its existing grain storage and drying facilities at Elm Creek, Nebraska, US.

The expansion, expected to cost around $10.3 million (€7.5 million), will include a 300-by-475 foot steel grain warehouse that will have an estimated capacity of 4.2 bushels of grain.

It will take six months to build and construction will begin when the weather improves.

KAAPA Ethanol CEO Chuck Woodside explained that nearly $9 million would be spent on expanding the bushel storage capacity. $1.4 million would be invested in a system to dry 10,000 bushels of corn every hour and will replace the existing 2,300-bushel capacity dryer.

The general contractor for the expansion is Marcus Construction of Minnesota. Mid Nebraska Land Development of Aurora will prepare the site before work begins and PMI of Grand Island will install the drying and conveying systems.

KAAPA Ethanol produces around 59 million gallons of ethanol annually from 21 million bushels of corn a year.
