India launches 100% biodiesel bus

In India, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corp. (KSRTC) is set to launch a 100% biodiesel bus as part of its efforts to reduce fuel expenditure and air pollution.

This India’s first solely biodiesel-fuelled bus, operating a line between Bengaluru and Chennai, will be inaugurated by transport minister Ramalinga Reddy, according to The New Indian Express.

Last year India’s Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas permitted transports companies to use buses with 100% biodiesel, up from 20% previously allowed.

In 2015, KSRTC launched a pilot project with 10 biodiesel buses as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The corporation expects the use of biodiesel to save it money in fuel costs.
