Inbicon delivers first batch of ethanol to Statoil

Denmark-based ethanol producer Inbicon has delivered 28,500 litres of cellulosic ethanol to energy company Statoil.

In what is the first delivery of many, the biofuel was dropped off at its stock tank in Hedehusene, Denmark, where it will be blended with conventional vehicle fuel later on in the year.

This is just part of a total 5 million litres which Statoil bought from Inbicon in August. The ethanol is being manufactured at Inbicon’s demonstration facility in Kalundborg from forestry and agricultural waste products.

Pia Bach Henriksen, CEO at Statoil, said: ‘We now show once again our commitment and push the development forward. This first delivery of many is yet another example of Statoil’s ambition to deliver sustainable biofuels and is a real goal that we are actively working on.’
