Honeywell and AliphaJet partner to commercialise renewable jet fuel

Technology manufacturer Honeywell and AliphaJet, a collaborative venture between Synget and Unitel Technologies, will work to bring renewable aviation fuel to market under a new partnership.

Honeywell will bring its engineering services and equipment to the venture, while AliphaJet has pioneered a catalytic method for bio-jet production using renewable materials such as plant and animal triglycerides and/or fatty acids.

AliphaJet's method will be enhanced by some of Honeywell's solutions, including its Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) and UniSim process simulators and field instrumentation.

The process removes all of the oxygen from the renewable oils without the need for costly hydrogen gas.

The AliphaJet process can also produce renewable drop-in diesel fuel, petrol and other hydrocarbon molecules usually derived from fossil fuel oil.

It can use a range of plant- and animal-based renewable oil feedstocks, including algae, camelina, pennycress, palm, soya, corn and tallow.
