Hawaiian Electric and Pacific Biodiesel sign deal
In Hawaii, US, biodiesel company Pacific Biodiesel will deliver its fuel to the new Hawaiian Electric Company-operated 8MW Honolulu International Airport Emergency Power Facility.
Hawaiian Electric and Pacific Biodiesel reached an agreement on 2 August, which will see Pacific Biodiesel supply the facility with at least 250,000 gallons of biodiesel produced from used cooking oil.
Pacific Biodiesel will begin supplying biodiesel to the site when the airport becomes operational in October 2012.
The Honolulu International Airport Emergency Power Facility consists of four generators, which are powered by biodiesel and generate 8MW for the grid. And in an emergency, the generators will direct power solely to the airport.
'We are pleased to be fulfilling our first contract under HECO's RFP requiring locally produced fuel,' says Robert King, CEO of Pacific Biodiesel. 'This is positive movement towards empowering a strong collaboration with Hawaii's farmers as we work together for a diversified agriculture future, a cleaner environment and green jobs.'
