Greenleaf Biofuels receives state funds for plant
Connecticut’s Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) has backed the project, and it has been administered through the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology (CCAT).
The grant is the largest of several announced by the state in its effort of advancing in-state biodiesel project development and production.
Previously, the CCAT awarded smaller amounts of state grant funding to the University of New Haven, Yale University, DBS Energy, BioDiesel One, and CT Biodiesel.
Construction on the plant is anticipated to be completed by January 2010. Once operational, the facility is expected to use waste materials, such as used cooking oils as feedstock.
Additionally, it will produce non-fossil, environmentally-friendly heating oil and transportation fuels that can be used as direct replacements or as supplements to conventional petroleum distillates.
