Green Fuel plant delayed
Green Fuel is behind the multi-million dollar project and general manager Graeme Smith explained that some of the equipment for the refinery has still not arrived from Brazil. ‘Delivery of equipment was held up by, among many factors, the strikes in RSA ports earlier in the year.’
The company has also faced further problems as the sugarcane feedstock cultivated for the production of ethanol has now matured before construction on the plant has been completed. As a result Green Fuel has been forced to sell the sugarcane to Triangle Sugar Limited.
‘Sugarcane harvesting cannot be delayed and as the crops are maturing ahead of the final installation of the plant, we are offering our cane to Triangle to boost their supplies,’ Smith explained. 'This is a clear case of time management – we cannot stop the cane from growing while we await delivery of parts to the plant.’
