Gevo closes acquisition of ethanol plant

Gevo, a privately held renewable chemical and advanced biofuels company, has closed its acquisition of renewable energy producer Agri-Energy’s ethanol production facility in Luverne, Minnesota, US.

Gevo has already begun retrofitting the plant and the production of isobutanol is expected to begin in Q1 2012. During the retrofit process it is expected that the facility will continue to produce and sell ethanol.

The plant has an output capacity of around 18 million gallons a year and Gevo has developed a proprietary process which enables the production of isobutanol from a number of different feedstocks. These include corn, wheat, sorghum, barley and sugarcane, in addition to cellulosic feedstocks.
