Farnesane used in first commercial flight
On 31 July, Amyris, partnered with Brazilian airline GOL, completed the aviation industry's first commercial flight with farnesane.
The recently approved renewable jet fuel was used in the duo's first flight, which left Orlando, Florida, on 30 July and flew to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The partnership committed to using up to a 10% blend of the renewable farnesane fuel, which can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80% compared to more traditional petroleum fuels.
