Ethanol lost after train derailment in US
Thousands of gallons of ethanol leaked after a train derailment in southern Illinois, US just before the New Year.
Local fire chiefs estimated between 3,400 and 5,000 gallons of ethanol spilled from a 30,000 gallon tanker car before the leak was plugged. The low temperature was believed to have surpressed any vapour and no homes were evacuated.
There were no reported injuries as a result of the eight carriage accident and the tracks are being fixed while an investigation looks into how it happened.
