Essar Future Energy and LX International sign MoU to advance SAF Biorefinery in India
The agreement marks a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to decarbonise aviation and build a domestic supply chain for low‑carbon fuels.
Under the MoU, EFEL and LXI will work together to progress the project’s technical, commercial and strategic planning.
The proposed biorefinery aims to convert waste-based feedstocks into SAF, a cleaner alternative to conventional jet fuel that can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80%.
The collaboration brings together EFEL’s experience in large‑scale energy infrastructure and LXI’s global expertise in sustainable supply chains and advanced materials.
The partnership supports India’s broader climate ambitions, including its push for net‑zero emissions and the aviation sector’s growing demand for greener fuels. As airlines worldwide face increasing pressure to cut emissions, the development of a reliable SAF production base in India could position the country as a key player in the global energy transition.
