EPA announces latest US biodiesel figures

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported 132 million gallons of biodiesel production for the month of July and a year-to-date volume of over 768 million gallons.

The latest numbers show a total of more than 166 million gallons of biomass-based diesel in July, but that total also includes production of renewable diesel. The biodiesel portion of the total was 132 million gallons.

Biodiesel is also the first EPA-designated advanced biofuel to reach 1 billion gallons of annual production. The industry has surpassed Renewable Fuel Standard targets for two consecutive years and is on pace to do so again this year.

Made from a diverse mix of resources such as recycled cooking oil, soyabean oil and animal fats, biodiesel is also the first and only EPA-designated advanced biofuel with commercial-scale production nationwide. It is produced in nearly every state in the US and supports some 50,000 jobs.
