Enerkem and Methanex sign offtake agreement

Enerkem, a producer of biofuels and chemicals from waste materials, has entered into an offtake agreement with Methanex, a methanol supplier.

Under the agreement, Methanex will purchase methanol produced at Enerkem's facility in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Enerkem's Edmonton-based subsidiary, Enerkem Alberta Biofuels, will begin producing the methanol for Methanex. The plant will subsequently produce cellulosic ethanol from methanol. Commercial production plant capacity is expected to be 36 million litres a year.

Speaking about Enerkem's methanol, the company's CEO and president Vincent Chornet says: 'Our proprietary technology platform allows for the production of renewable fuels and chemicals, including methanol, which we can sell as an end-product or convert into cellulosic ethanol.'
