Duonix Beatrice biodiesel plant expected to begin production later this year
Retrofitting at a biodiesel plant in Beatrice, Nebraska, US, is currently underway and on schedule, with production expected to begin later this year.
The plant, originally built in 2007, was purchased by Duonix Beatrice – a joint venture between Flint Hills Resources and Benefuel Inc. – in 2011. The company's goal is reportedly to have production up and running by the second half of 2015, producing up to 50 million gallons of biodiesel.
According to the Associated Press, the retrofitting of the plant has been ongoing for about two years to make it feedstock flexible and ENSEL technology-compatible.
The ENSEL process is designed to 'streamline production, eliminate waste and by-products, allow the use of cheaper feedstocks high in free fatty acids and expand the capabilities of products to produce a biodiesel with enhanced cold-weather properties'.
