Covanta to buy seven bioelectricity plants
The seven plants, which collectively process about 3 million tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) a year, will join Covanta’s existing portfolio of 38 plants processing 17 million tonnes of MSW annually.
Covanta intends to complete the purchase of the plants, six across the US and one in Canada, this year.
Covanta has also joined forces with Canadian renewables specialist Green Island Energy to build a US$500 million bioelectricity plant in British Columbia, Canada. The project will convert 500,000–750,000 tonnes of waste into 90 MW of power.
