Corn Oil One breaks ground on distillers corn oil plant

Corn Oil One has begun constructing its new distillers corn oil facility, based in Iowa, US. The new plant, expected online early next year, will be one of the first to purify constituents out of distillers corn oil via a patent-pending process.

The plant is co-located with Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy's (SIRE) ethanol plant and, in addition to removing high-value co-products, it also producers a cleaner back-end corn oil suitable for industrial purposes.

Joe Riley, GM of Corn Oil One, says: 'The purified product improves the efficiency, efficacy and economics of biodiesel and oleo-chemical production by eliminating the need for capital intensive pre-treatment steps. Their [SIRE's] approach on the future of distillers corn oil is what has made this ground breaking a reality.'

The end-product can also be utilised in the animal feed and bio-based industries. Much of the distillers corn oil will be obtained from FEC Solutions, the purchasing agent for Corn Oil One.

ICM is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project.
