China looks to further biodiesel use
Min Enze, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering has forecast that vehicles in large cities, such as Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai, will be B5 biodiesel compatible by next year.
Next year is expected to see the acceptance of a national standard of B5 biodiesel.
This year has witnessed state-based companies gearing up to take on biodiesel production an responsibilities with CNPC and COFCO having signed agreements with the State Forestry Administration for the plantation of five biodiesel forest bases in Yunnan, Sichuan, Hunan, Anhui and Hebei. Under the agreement, in the next 15 years, 13.3million hectares of forests will be planted for biodiesel production.
The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has also invested 2.4billion Yuan (€253 million) in building a biodiesel refinery and planting 34,000 hectares of Jatropha curcas in Panzhihua, with another 60,000 tonne capacity biodiesel refinery currently under construction in Hainan Island.
