Ceres expands sorghum hybrid research in Mexico

Ceres, an agricultural biotechnology and seed company, is expanding its current research activities in Jalisco, Mexico.

The plant complements its product development activities in Brazil, as the company is commercialising sweet and high-biomass sorghum hybrids for use in renewable fuel and electricity production.

Ceres product developers can utilise shuttle testing and breeding, a technique that involves growing multiple plantings each year in relation to growing seasons.

The sorghum research site will be used to develop new parental breeding lines and to evaluate various hybrid combinations. Plant scientists will also use the facility to manage support research, including genetic mapping and genomics studies that improve the speed and efficiency of Ceres' breeding and selection process in Brazil.
