Canadian biodiesel project up and running

Renewable energy company Methes Energies Canada is the latest to join the Ontario Biodiesel Association (OBA), joining Great Lakes Biodiesel and Noroxel Energy.

OBA members have agreed to invest over $80 million (€59 million) in plant and equipment to produce biodiesel in the province. Charles Sousa, Ontario minister of finance, committed via the government's budget a consultation process to develop a biodiesel policy in Ontario last May.

That process began in July 2013 and the creation of the OBA demonstrates the industry's commitment to the collective interests and concerns of the industry.

Paul Grenier, executive director of the OBA says: ‘Our strength is the unity of biodiesel producers, supporting provincial policy development, to improve Ontario's air quality by promoting increased use of biodiesel. We will work with the Ontario government, feedstock suppliers and other key stakeholders to the industry to reach this goal.’
