Brazil to double ethanol production by 2019

By 2019 it is predicted that the production of ethanol for vehicle fuel will reach 64 billion litres, over double what is currently produced today.

According to energy minister Marcio Zimmerman: ‘Brazil produces 26 billion litres today and will reach 64 billion litres in 2019. With that we will even have a surplus to export.’

To date 47% of the nation’s energy is produced from renewable sources, 18% of which comes from sugarcane.
