BlueFire signs feedstock supply contract

Renewable fuels company BlueFire Renewables has signed a 15-year supply contract with Cooper Marine and Timberlands (CMT) to provide feedstock for BlueFire’s planned cellulosic ethanol facility in Fulton, Mississippi, US.

The cellulosic ethanol plant will convert materials such as wood chips, forest residual chips and wood waste in approximately 7 million gallons of ethanol a year.

The agreement will see CMT supply the Fulton site with all of the feedstock required for the plant to reach its production capacity.

‘This agreement is another significant step forward for BlueFire and we are excited to have CMT’s participation in our Fulton project,’ Arnold Klann, CEO of BlueFire Renewables said. ‘Coupled with our recently announced off-take agreement with Tenaska BioFuels LLC, the key input and output contracts required for financing are now resolved. This is a very exciting time for BlueFire Renewables as we complete the final steps to bringing cellulosic ethanol to fruition in the US marketplace.’

CMT is part of Cooper/T. Schmidt and currently has a number of chip mills in operation throughout Mississippi and Alabama.

Executive vice president of Cooper Marine and Timberlands Phil Willingham commented: ‘Responsible biomass production has an important role to play in improving the state of local economies. We look forward to utilising our extensive experience in biomass feedstock procurement and logistics in establishing a sustainable biomass feedstock supply chain for BlueFire’s Fulton project.’
