Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant chosen for demonstrator multi-KETs pilot line

The European Commission has selected Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant as a demonstrator multi-KETs pilot line.

Known for the development, scale-up and custom manufacturing of biobased processes and products, the Belgium-based pilot plant has recently been chosen as one of the four European demonstrator multi-KETs pilot lines.

Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is best recognised for its work in industrial biotechnology - one of the six European KETs.

In 2009, Europe established six Key Enabling Technologies (KETs): industrial biotechnology, nanotechnology, nanoelectronics, microelectronics, photonics and advanced materials.

Europe is prioritising research and operations in these technologies to 'enable the shift to a low carbon, knowledge-based economy ensuring the competitiveness of European industries and the creation of jobs,' Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant says.

In support of this policy, the European Commission began the multi-KETs Pilot Lines project, which places several KETs together within one facility. Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant, along with the other three pilot plants, will be analysed to create a framework for the 'further development of a systematic EU policy to support pilot and other KETs activities,' the company adds.
