BDI-BioEnergy International upgrades German biodiesel plants for REG
Using proprietary BDI RetroFit technology and Renewable Energy Group’s (REG) proprietary processing capabilities, the plants will now be able to produce biodiesel from some of the hardest to convert waste fats and oils.
Making biodiesel from waste oils and fats instead of fresh oil improves the environmental balance of the biofuel.
The upgrade will make the two plants, in Emden and Oeding, fit for several more years of operation making renewable energy out of waste.
The project unites BDI, a leader in this process technology, with REG, one of the largest biodiesel producers in North America, and one of the most important biodiesel firms globally.
A total of 200,000 metric tonnes per year will be converted to waste-based oils as a result of this modernisation and upgrade.
“With our innovative RetroFit programme, we are taking the two biodiesel plants to a completely new technical and economic level. The result is unique raw material flexibility, maximum plant availability and a measurably valuable contribution to the circular economy and CO2 reduction.” said Markus Dielacher, CEO BDI-BioEnergy International.
