B100 fuel tested in India
The first test run of B100 Marine Microalgal Biodiesel has been carried out at the CSIR headquarters in New Delhi, India.
Last year the government successfully tested B20 biodiesel derived from marine microalgal and these most recent tests follow further developments.
For the test, a regular vehicle was powered by the B100 biodiesel for 200km and the government says it wants to invest in future scale ups of the fuel because ‘fossil fuels are depleting day by day’.
However, it admits that ‘considerable efforts’ will be needed to make the fuel available on a large scale for a price that is affordable.
The microalgal biodiesel was grown from a marine microalgal strain cultivated in a solar saltpan. The project was lead by the CSIR-New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in collaboration with the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
