Avon to supply B2 by mid-2011

In Avon, Colorado, local buses and other town vehicles will soon be running on biodiesel following moves by the area’s fuel supplier in October.

In response to federal EPA standards, which will see US suppliers offer renewable fuels, Sinclair Oil Company is looking to replace its No.2 diesel with a 2% biodiesel blend.

‘This renewable fuel is another step the town is taking to be environmentally conscientious,’ said Avon’s director of public works and transportations Jenny Strehler. ‘It will improve our emissions from our bus fleet and other diesel-powered vehicles.’

It is expected that a B1 blend will be available by the end of this year, with this increasing to B2 by mid-2011.

Avon is also planning on selling its new renewable biodiesel to bodies including the Eagle River Fire Protection district, Beaver Creek Metro District Buses, Eagle County Ambulance District, Eco Transit and the Eco HAZMAT Team.
