Australia funds pilot-scale cellulosic ethanol plant

Ethanol Technologies has been awarded AUD$2.9 million (€1.65 million) by the Australian Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research to scale up a cellulosic ethanol process technology.

The subsidiary of forestry products company Willmott Forests will use the funding to pay for the construction of a $20 million pilot-scale biorefinery in Harwood, New South Wales, which is to be completed in late 2010.

Development of a commercial-scale plant is expected to begin in early 2011 with completion planned for late 2012.
