Argentina's biodiesel industry set to grow
In Argentina, 26% of the nations soya crop was used for the production of biodiesel, according to a study by the Consorcios Regionales de Experimentacion Agricola (CREA).
Argentina manufactured 2.6 million tonnes of biodiesel last year and as a result consumed 14 million tonnes of the total 55 million tonnes of soya cultivated.
In 2010 Argentina sold 1.1 million tonnes of its biodiesel domestically, while 1.5 million tonnes were exported. These levels are only set to rise as the country's biodiesel sector is predicted to grow. In 2011 alone it is adding an additional 3 million tonnes of installed capacity.
