Argent Energy expands into the Netherlands
Argent Energy has taken over the biodiesel production assets of Biodiesel Amsterdam, as well as associated tank storage and tank cleaning facilities.
The deal comes as part of a broader acquisition by biofuel producer Argent Energy’s parent company, the conglomerate John Swire & Sons. Alongside Dutch investment firm Parcom Captial, John Swire & Sons has taken over the Simadan Group.
As well as Biodiesel Amsterdam, Simadan Group’s assets include Noba, producers of high energy fat products for the European feed industry; Rotie, specialists in the collection and processing of used cooking oil and organic waste material; Tank Storage Amsterdam and Tank & Truck cleaning Amsterdam.
As part of the transaction, Biodiesel Amsterdam, Tank Storage Amsterdam and Tank & Truck Cleaning Amsterdam will be integrated into Argent Energy.
Argent Energy is a large scale commercial biodiesel producer based in the UK, which produces road fuel using waste from the food industry and tallow from the meat industry as feedstocks. The new acquisitions in the Netherlands mark its first steps outside the UK.
“This investment will allow Argent to develop our capability of recycling waste fats and oils in the production of biofuel,” said Argent Energy managing director Jim Walker.
“It further underlines Swire’s commitment to contribute to the global reduction of CO2 emissions, just as the UK and the EU are legislating for continued decarbonisation of transport to 2030 and beyond.”
