Areva and Astonfield team up to develop Indian biomass
Astonfield will contribute about €60 million to the project, which is rumoured to include 10 planned biomass facilities with a capacity of about 10MW each. Construction of the first facility in West Bengal state is scheduled to begin later this year.
Areva's Chennai-based bioenergy unit will oversee the design, commissioning and construction of the biomass plants.
Astonfield co-chairman Ameet Shah said last week that, within the next two months, the company intended to release details of a scheme to invest $2 billion (€1.4 billion) over the next five years in renewable energy in India, although the majority of this will be devoted to solar power.
