1.5mgy of biodiesel coming to Cumberland County

Weiser Energy Partners, a business dedicated to the production of sustainable energy based in South Carolina, US, is looking to build a biofuel plant in Cumberland County.

The new commercial-scale plant would convert branches, construction debris and restaurant grease into 1.5 million gallons of biodiesel annually.

This would be Weiser Energy’s first large-scale production facility and, although a location for the project has not yet been decided, the company has been discussing its plans for the build with city and county officials for a number of weeks. The development manager for Weiser Energy Don Wills explained that they are looking for a 5-acre minimum industrial site in or around Fayetteville.

Wills went on the say that the bosses of Weiser Energy are looking to begin constructing the facility towards the back end of this year, after all the necessary state and federal permits have been obtained.

Although no one from the company wished to disclose an average figure for how much the plant is expected to cost, Wills said that, once completed, the plant would create 15 new jobs.
