John started Phycobloom to produce low-cost bio-oils from microalgae. Having studied materials science and nuclear engineering at the University of Oxford, he brings a different perspective to his synthetic biology focussed start-up. Phycobloom is developing novel strains of algae that are able to continuously secrete specific lipids, ideal for biofuel production, in order to massively reduce the cost of production. Phycobloom is currently raising their Series A to grow their team and commercialise their technology.
