Woodland builds biofuels plant

A demonstration plant is now on the cards for Canada-based Woodland Biofuels after receiving C$4 million (€2.9 million) through the Innovation Demonstration Fund (IDF).

The plant, which will use Woodland’s own technology, will produce cellulosic ethanol from biomass, including wood waste and agricultural waste. The company’s technology releases no toxic emissions into the atmosphere and converts only energy crops into biofuel.

President and CEO of Woodland Greg Nuttall said: ‘This will not only put Ontario in the front of the global race to find an alternative to fossil fuels but will also provide Ontario with significant economic and environmental benefits.’

Nuttall expects the plant will result in the company becoming the lowest cost producer of vehicle fuel in the US.

Zeton is a demo plant engineering and construction firm in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, and one of Woodland’s partners.
