Virgin gets ready for 100% SAF flight

There have been several milestones in the history of aviation over the last 120 years.
Of course, it all began with the Wright brothers and their short flight along the shores of Kitty Hawk that set the industry literally taking to the skies.
Other milestones include Louis Bleriot’s foray across the channel – 22 miles – in 1909 and Charles Linbergh’s journey across the Atlantic, from New York to Paris, which heralded the beginning of transatlantic travel.
There have been many more since and, of course, future aviation ambitions are still in the pipeline.
Historic occasion
Another landmark takes place on November 28.
The test marks a key milestone in the project which will see the world’s first 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) Virgin Atlantic flight travel across the ‘pond’ from London Heathrow to New York JFK on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Earlier this year, the airline and Rolls-Royce confirmed the successful SAF blend ground test on the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine, which has helped pave the way for this historic occasion.
