USDA awards Iowa green funding

The state of Iowa, US, has been awarded funding from The Department of Agriculture to help develop biofuels and replace fossil fuels.

US senator Chuck Grassley claimed that the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels would distribute the sum of $1.6 million (€1.2 million) to the state.

Grassley said it was highly encouraging to witness The Department of Agriculture and biofuel companies in Iowa working together to develop sustainable biofuels and decrease the US’ reliance on foreign oil.

$727,132.93 of the grant is going to Renewable Energy Group in Ralston and will help to finance the growing production of biofuels from canola oil, soyabean oil, other oils and animal fat.

Western Iowa Energy is to receive around $298,475 and will use this to increase the generation of advanced biofuels from waste vegetable oil, greases and animal fat.
