The REG Newton name-change
The consolidation of contracts with the biodiesel plant in Newton and Blackhawk Biofuels in Danville, Illinois, has been finalised.
In February Central Iowa Energy and Blackhawk Biofuels shareholders voted for an all-stock transaction and REG became the sole-owner of their facilities. This mergence makes REG the largest wholly owned biodiesel producer in North America.
The plant in Newton produces 30 million gallons of biodiesel every year. Along with Blackhawk’s 45 million gallon a year plant, REG’s manufacturing capacity is 122 million gallons annually.
Jeff Stroburg, REG’s chairman and chief executive officer, said: ‘With the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) now in effect, the distillate market is demanding technical expertise, dependable supply, more efficient distribution and creative pricing options from major biodiesel partners.’
REG also owns plants in Ralston and Algona, Iowa, and Houston, Texas.
