The end draws close for Bahamas Waste

After it began construction earlier this year the Bahamas Waste biodiesel production facility is expected to be fully operational by July this year.

When up and running the waste collection company’s $750,000 (€606,440) plant will see the company’s 50 strong fleet of vehicles switch from fossil fuels to being powered by biodiesel.

‘I am hoping that we will have our first gallon sometime by no later than the end of the summer,’ said the firm’s managing director Francisco de Cardenas.

The plant will produce the biofuel from 500,000 gallons a year of used cooking oil. Hotels and restaurants will provide the majority of the feedstock but oil from domestic use will also be processed.

When construction has been completed the Bahamas Waste plant will consist of a small sized generator, a raw material tank, a methanol tank and a diesel tank.
