Southampton–London pipeline upgrade enhances SAF flow to capital airports
The project delivers upgraded on‑site facilities designed to increase jet fuel capacity and improve the resilience of supply to London’s major airports.
A central outcome of the upgrade is the enhanced ability to transport greater volumes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
By modernising key sections of the pipeline and expanding throughput capability, the SLP now provides a more efficient route for moving SAF into the capital, helping airlines access the cleaner fuels needed to meet industry and government decarbonisation goals.
The improved infrastructure reduces reliance on road‑based fuel deliveries, strengthens energy security, and supports long‑term emissions‑reduction ambitions across the aviation sector.
With the upgraded system now fully operational, the SLP stands as a critical link in enabling the wider adoption of SAF and ensuring a robust, future‑ready fuel supply for some of the world’s busiest airports.
“The flawless execution of this project is a testament to the dedication, expertise and collaboration of our team and contracting partners”, said Joel Mizen, site manager at ExxonMobil Fawley.
“By delivering this complex infrastructure safely, on time and with no safety incidents, we have increased jet fuel flow rates, strengthening Britain’s energy security and helping secure a reliable future for UK aviation.”
