RWE and Tullis Russell collaborate for biomass plant

RWE npower renewables has teamed up with paper maker Tullis Russell to construct a biomass plant.

RWE develops renewable energy in the UK and the new biomass plant and will be its biggest plant yet.

The facility will use biomass to provide steam and electricity to the company’s power plant. 50MW of energy will be generated, taking the place of the coal-burning plant currently used by Scotland-based Tullis Russell.

RWE’s biomass plant will reduce the amount of carbon emitted into the atmosphere by the paper maker by 72%, over 250,000 tonnes.

Stephen Lohr, head of biomass for RWE said, ‘Across Europe, we are aiming to build biomass plants with a total installed capacity of around 390MW by 2013.’
